Hoy, poesía y música. Blake contra Einaudi. Se me ocurrió unir estas dos magníficas piezas en una sola entrada porque ambas me invitaron a reflexionar. Las tardes de Agosto en Madrid suelen ser momentos propicios para la reflexión...
La composición es obra del pianista italiano Ludovico Einaudi; se trata del segundo corte de su LP I Giorni, editado en 2002 y distribuido en España por Sony BMG Imports. Lleva por título I Due Fiumi (Los Dos Ríos):
El poema es parte de la poesía The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (El Matrimonio del Cielo y el Infierno); el fragmento corresponde a un capítulo titulado The Argument (Argumento) y fue escrito por William Blake entre 1790 y 1793. The Argument
Rintrah roars & shakes his fires in the burden'd air;
Hungry clouds swag on the deep.
Once meek, and in a perilous path,
The just man kept his course along
The vale of death.
Roses are planted where thorns grow,
And on the barren heath
Sing the honey bees.
Then the perilous path was planted,
And a river and a spring
On every cliff and tomb,
And on the bleached bones
Red clay brought forth;
Till the villain left the paths of ease,
To walk in perilous paths, and drive
The just man into barren climes.
Now the sneaking serpent walks
In mild humility,
And the just man rages in the wilds
Where lions roam.

Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and Repulsion, Reason and Energy, Love and Hate, are neccesary to Human existence.
From these Contraries spring what the religious call Good & Evil. Good is the passive that obeys Reason. Evil is the active springing from Energy.
Good is Heaven. Evil is Hell.
Argumento
Rintrah ruge y sacude sus fuegos en el aire cargado;
Nubes hambrientas flotan pesadamente sobre el abismo.
Ayer sumiso y en un sendero peligroso,
El hombre justo conservó su camino a través
Del valle de la muerte.
Han plantado rosas donde crecen las espinas,
Y en el brezal estéril
Cantan las abejas.
Luego, árboles se irguieron en el sendero peligroso,
Y un río y un manantial
De cada peñón y tumba,
y sobre los huesos blanqueados
Brotó la arcilla roja;
Hasta que el vil dejó sus fáciles senderos,
Para seguir por los senderos peligrosos y conducir
Al justo hacia infecundos climas.
Ahora, la furtiva serpiente se desliza
En dócil humildad
Y el justo se enfurece en los desiertos
Donde vaga el león.

Ya que ha comenzado un nuevo cielo y treinta y tres años transcurrieron desde su advenimiento, el Eterno Infierno revive. Mas, ¡ved!, Swedenborg es el Ángel sentado ante la tumba: sus escritos son las túnicas plegadas. Ahora es el dominio de Edom y el retorno de Adán al Paraíso. Ved Isaías, capítulos XXXIV y XXXV.
Sin Contrarios no hay progresión. Atracción y Repulsión, Razón y Energía, Amor y Odio, son necesarios a la Humana existencia.
De esos Contrarios nace lo que los religiosos llaman Bien y Mal. Bien es lo pasivo que obedece a la Razón. Mal es lo activo que surge de la Energía.
Bien es Cielo. Mal es Infierno.
